Health Improvement Project Zanzibar (HIPZ) is recruiting for several exciting positions under a major five-year maternal and newborn health programme in partnership with the Ministry of Health Zanzibar.
These roles will support improvements in maternal and newborn care, digital health systems, specialist training, monitoring and evaluation, and programme delivery across Unguja and Pemba. More information on each role can be found clicking here.
Programme Manager: Maternal Newborn Health Programme
Location: Zanzibar
Deadline: 7 June 2026
HIPZ is seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead implementation of a large-scale maternal and newborn health investment in Zanzibar. The role will oversee programme delivery, consortium coordination, government engagement, reporting, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams across several technical workstreams.
Key requirements:
Master’s degree in public health, health systems, medicine, or related field
Minimum 5 years managing complex donor-funded health programmes
Strong experience in maternal and newborn health and health systems strengthening
Excellent leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
M&E Manager: Maternal Newborn Health Programme
Location: Zanzibar
Deadline: 7 June 2026
The M&E Manager will lead monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting activities across the programme. The role focuses on strengthening maternal and newborn health data systems, supporting data quality improvement, and translating evidence into programme learning and decision-making.
Key requirements:
Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, M&E, or related field
At least 5 years’ experience in donor-funded health programmes
Strong knowledge of DHIS2, EMR systems, dashboards, and data analysis
Excellent reporting and analytical skills
Finance Officer
Location: Zanzibar
Deadline: 7 June 2026
HIPZ is recruiting a Finance Officer to support financial management, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and grant administration across the Investment portfolio. The role will work closely with programme and operational teams to ensure effective financial oversight and donor compliance.
Key requirements:
Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing donor-funded project finances
Strong budgeting, reconciliation, and financial reporting skills
Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability
Digital Health Lead
Location: Zanzibar
Deadline: 7 June 2026
The Digital Health Lead will provide technical leadership for HIPZ’s digital health portfolio, supporting EMR integration, dashboard development, data systems strengthening, and rollout of digital tools across health facilities in Zanzibar.
Key requirements:
Degree in health informatics, computer science, information systems, or related field
Minimum 7 years’ experience in digital health or health information systems
Experience with EMR systems, DHIS2, dashboards, and interoperability
Strong coordination and problem-solving skills
Obstetrician & Gynaecologist / ECSACOG Faculty Specialist
Location: Zanzibar
Deadline: 7 June 2026
HIPZ is seeking a specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to support the development of ECSACOG-accredited training hospitals in Zanzibar. The role combines specialist clinical care, postgraduate teaching, mentorship, and leadership in maternal and newborn health quality improvement.
Key requirements:
MMed in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Eligibility for ECSACOG Fellowship
At least 7 years’ post-specialist clinical experience
Strong teaching, mentorship, and emergency obstetric care experience
