After 18 months of work, we are over the moon to have funded a brand new A&E department at Kivunge Hospital. Until now, patients who have arrived at Kivunge who were critically ill or had suffered a serious injury often couldn’t receive the treatment they needed. The hospital didn’t have any staff trained to deliver emergency care, or the equipment that was needed. Now, thanks to the generosity of ZIDO, Pharmanovia and the Randal Charitable Foundation, we are going to be opening this department in the next few weeks. The department will treat more than 12,000 patients each year, and it’ll be the first time ever that emergency medicine has been available in a public hospital in Zanzibar outside of the capital Stone Town.
